Finding the best foundation, skin tone, and hacks for applying foundation
Makeup foundation is one of the most important part of any type of makeup look. To get the best of the best looks new and more advance type of foundations are available in the market.
But the problem is that so many different varieties of foundations have made the choice bit difficult, and very difficult for the one who is a beginner in makeup world.
So girls here we are with most easiest way of finding the best foundation and method of applications, along with these I will give you some tips of summer and winter makeup technics which I use myself.
We need to know that every person in the world is unique. Therefore they require different things to deal with, but luckily we have a huge variations in makeup industry to deal with every different person at his own personal level.
First of all let's see what types of skin we have, our skin tone and skin texture like oily, dry, or neutral and how do we recognize our skin type. This step is very important to find the most suitable foundation for our skin.
There are three types of skin shades
Deep
Light, and
Medium
Deep skin color is like the African ones, the dark complexion and shinny skin. Light skin tone is what we see of Russian, Britishers etc, in other words the pale complexion. Lastly the medium skin color is referred to people living in subcontinent and around that part like Pakistani, Indian, Bengali, Nepali etc. These people have medium color of skin.
Now below are the tones of our skin that comes from beneath the skin, means the original natural color that we have, that we were born with. These tones also fall in three categories
Warm
Neutral, and
Cool
How to find which skin tone we have let's see the following two types of test which can help find out our skin tone.
1) Wrist test
In this test you have to see the color of veins inside our wrist. If they are
Purple or blue - cool skin tone
Green or olive - warm skin tone
Non recognizable - neutral skin tone
The second test that can be done is
2) Sun test
If you feel following changes in your skin while sitting in sun you can have the corresponding tones.
Turns red - cool skin tone
Turns tanned - warm skin tone
No effect - neutral skin tone
Now when you have found your skin tone and type of skin color then you should not have any trouble in finding the perfect makeup foundation for your skin.
The trick which mostly people use is to check the color of foundation in the inner side of wrist. That I believe is wrong, because color of our skin there is paler than our face. Therefore I recommend to check the foundation color on your jaw line. The handy rule is when you go for foundation hunt in cosmetics store keep a beauty blender with you. Pour out a bit of foundation on the back of hand and apply on your jaw, or if you are finding paint stick then stamp a bit on your jaw and blend it. Then see a mirror and see the difference of shade to your skin, it can be either paler, darker, or equal to your skin color.
Now it depends upon you what shade you go for according to your skin color and tone. Some people like paler shades if they have dark complexion or medium honey, tan color, and some people like to just enhance their natural skin color and requires foundation to cover only the uneven skin and blemishes.
Now let's see what types of foundations are available in the cosmetics world that we can use...
1) Liquid foundation
It is the most common type of foundation that is found the market. It has advantage of quick blending and even coverage. But the problem with this type is, it is messy to carry in summers and application can give oily look.
But yes then there we have solution to the summers with spf and oil control foundations. However for people who have extra oily skin the liquid foundation is a complete no. However they can use good oil control primers before applying liquid foundation and then they should apply face powder in the most oily places like around nose, on chin, and around eyes.
You should use powdered blush, and contour over liquid foundation so that it doesn't look uneven .
2) Paint stick foundation
This type of foundation is compatible in both summers and winters but in freezing temperatures it can be very hard to blend and you might need to rub your blender hard against the skin to blend the foundation. However in professional field this is an essential item to give a firm look to the model, bride or who ever. Because it is not melting and can be mold in any look by using other types of foundation.
The advantage of this foundation is that it gives a new base for rest of the blending. You can apply liquid blush, and contour on stuck foundation, and mostly this doesn't require too much of face powder setting.
3) Powdered foundation
This type is the best choice for the beginners. It is the type of foundation that can easily be settled in place and will not give a heavy look because beginners find hard to blend and carry the heavy look. Along with that the powdered foundation is also used to reduce oily effect of other foundations and keep the other foundations in place.
Powdered foundation look is effective in summer outdoor works, because our face oil mix with powder and make it natural base. And keep the extra oil in control. However this doesn't cover any blemishes. But just give you even skin color.
Then there many modified forms of foundations in the market to avoid too many products application on skin and to minimize the hazardous effects of 24 hour application of makeup like with actors and models who have to wear make all the time in front of cameras and behind the camera too.
Such foundation include:
- Whipped mousse foundation
- Serum foundation
- SPF foundations
- Cream foundation, etc
So by now I am sure you are very much aware of how to select your foundation and find your skin tone.
Now is the time for hacks which I use myself. I live in Pakistan and weather here in summers can reach to 48°c and in winters it can go below 2°c. There for it is very essential to have something in between that can be helpful in all weather conditions without getting in mess of separate foundation for separate weather.
1) Blend liquid an stick together..
This technic will give you smooth and contoured texture . All you have to do is have paint stick one shade paler then your skin color and liquid foundation one shade deeper. First apply paint stick and then apply liquid foundation, with the help of clean blender blend them evenly on your face, apply liquid foundation on the place where you want the contour effect. By this you won't need a separate contour.
This will also help to keep the foundation in the place for longer time. In summers you can apply stick more in comparison to liquid foundation to avoid any oily look. And in winters you can apply reasonable amount if stick and better amount of liquid foundation to look hydrated and moisturized.
2) Using prickly or talcum powder as powder foundation
In summers you can go for prickly powder as this will keep you skin cool and cover the foundation from oily looks. In winter talcum powder will give some fragrance and paler look because you will be using one shaded darker liquid foundation in more quantity.
3) Using powdered foundation only instead of stick or liquid foundation.
One of my favorite and quick way for everyday makeup look is applying only powdered foundation. This gives me even skin tone and doesn't take too much time of blending and setting.
